Developing a New ESG Programme for Responsible Gas Supply Chains

What is the RECOSI Gas Programme?

Current and upcoming regulation requires all energy stakeholders across the supply chain to develop new scalable and standardised solutions to ESG challenges for the industry. The RECOSI Gas Programme supports RECOSI members and their suppliers of natural gas and LNG in meeting growing regulatory requirements, demonstrating ESG leadership and fostering continuous improvement through collaboration.

Our vision is to pave the way for environmentally and socially conscious supply chain management by cultivating a network of forward-thinking organisations dedicated to actively improving responsible energy commodity sourcing and supply chain management.

Our Approach

In 2024, we completed Phase 1 testing of the self-assessment questionnaire and due diligence framework for gas assets. We are now incorporating feedback from gas producers and industry stakeholders to update the material ahead of further testing in Phase 2.

Alongside our work on improving ESG performance on asset-level, we are currently developing Responsible Sourcing Criteria that will apply to different types of suppliers across the gas supply chain focusing on corporate ESG policies and practices in line with good practice and regulatory requirements.

The RECOSI value proposition

RECOSI Gas is building a programme that supports responsible and sustainable gas supply chains, providing a structured yet flexible approach that improves ESG performance and reduces the administrative burden. Our integrated supply chain approach ensures suppliers can participate at the stage that best matches their profile while supporting continuous improvement.

How was the self-assessment questionnaire developed?

The ESG questionnaire has been developed based on a number of international standards, including the Bettercoal Code and the EO100™ Standard.

Get Involved

RECOSI Gas is building a community of stakeholders committed to raising ESG standards in global gas supply chains. As part of our stakeholder consultation process, we are currently inviting gas companies to engage with us to inform the development of the Responsible Sourcing Criteria and due diligence framework.

Details about our wider stakeholder engagement process will be shared in due course.
